    Point of Purchase displays - what are they?

    Point of purchase displays, or POP display marketing materials/advertisements, are placed next to the merchandise they are promoting. These items are generally located in the checkout area, or another location where the purchase decision is made. More commonly abbreviated to ‘POP’ by retailers, this can be one of the most underused tools in retail. 


    What types of POP are there?

    There are many different types of POP, from low-cost options to bespoke solutions. POP displays can be as simple as a sign or as elaborate as a FSDU. For example, a retailer may use a "shelf talker" (a sticker stuck to the end of the shelf to draw attention as the customer walks down the aisle of a grocery store). These are low cost, but high volume POP display items. Retailers may also create a full display where the vendor's products are merchandised inside it. For example, a freestanding display with the vendor's branding on it, with only its merchandise on display inside.


    Where shall I use Point of Purchase displays?

    This will vary from location to location. Think about the customer journey. From where they first interact with your brand, goods and services to the last point of contact. You will use POP display along this journey to move the buyer along the buying cycle. This will hopefully end up with a purchase, of either your goods or services. More specifically windows, walls, shelves, floor space, counter tops and reception areas are prime POP display locations.


    Is POP display expensive?

    POP display is an investment in the success of any business. Used correctly, it can be demonstrated to increase sales, profitability and customer engagement.
