We raise money for Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham

Ronald McDonald House logoIn the run up to Christmas we donated £200 to Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham. The team raised £100 and this sum was matched by our MD Mike Wright.
The cause was chosen because this year it provided invaluable support to one of our team. Sean works at our West Bromwich manufacturing base. When his son faced a life threatening disease he discovered just how important Ronald McDonald House is for parents whose children regularly visit Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Sean said this week “I cannot stress how valuable Ronald McDonald House is for parents and family of children who are being treated at the hospital. For just a small deposit, a room can be secured for as long as is required. The room allows parents and family to take a much needed break, but also stay very close to their child on the ward – they are never far away in case of any change in their condition. Usually only one person is allowed on the ward at any one time so to have a room nearby is really important. Hotel rooms in Brum are either scarce, expensive or not close enough so the rooms at the House are really useful.
“We don’t live far away from the Hospital but even in the first week we found that travel costs and eating at cafes etc was costing not far off £100. The room at the House meant we didn’t have to keep travelling to and from the hospital and could use the shared kitchen facilities to eat properly and inexpensively.
“When we used the House, there was a whole family from Belfast able to use the take advantage of the facilities – imagine the costs they would have to face if Ronald McDonald House was not around.
“What is often overlooked is how much the House helps reduce stress and hassle. When your kid is ill, the amount of stress within a family is massive and could cause long term damage to relationships. Being able to use the facilities at the House provides a real stress-buster and helps keep families focused on what is important – the treatment and cure of their sick child.”
Thanks to the speedy work of the ambulance service and the dedication of the doctors and nurses at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Sean’s lad is out of danger and hopefully on the road to full recovery – we wish the whole family the best for 2016.
