The UK's leading manufacturer and supplier of point of sale and retail displays

Why this point of sale display manufacturer backs ‘Made In Britain’ campaign

In early 2011, Liverpool-based manufacturer Stoves launched its ‘Made In Britain’ campaign and over the past 12 months the campaign has gone from strength to strength – with over 600 manufacturers signed up to the logo and backing from a number of prominent MPs including Ed Miliband who mentioned it in a speech made to the EEF in March 2012. As a leading point of sale display manufacturer, the GPX Group signed up early and proudly. We feature the ‘Made In Britain’ logo where applicable on our website and in our printed literature.
Stoves said that “the campaign was originally launched after research uncovered widespread confusion amongst consumers about Made in Britain goods” The research revealed that half of UK consumers were baffled when it comes to buying ‘British’, two-thirds (67%) wanted an official seal of approval to show products made in Britain and the majority (52%) thought British brands should bring manufacturing back to the UK. Following this call from the public, they launched a national competition amongst UK university design students and asked them to create a logo which could be used as a standard marquee and received hundreds of entries. The winning design was from Cynthia Lee from Nottingham University.
While the concept of a campaign to buy British may seem, to coin a phrase, ‘foreign’ to many people in the UK, other nations are not so reticent. In the US, people are used to hearing the phrase “buy American”. It is seen as one of the ways of putting Americans back to work. Adverts proudly proclaim how the product was born and bred in America, and closer to home, many French people would not dream of drinking anything other than French wine or driving anything other than a French car.
As a proud UK point of sale manufacturer, we joined the campaign to demonstrate that there is a dynamic UK manufacturing sector producing high-quality items across many sectors and all price ranges – not just high-end products. Although there is a common belief that the UK no longer has a manufacturing sector, in fact the UK is the sixth largest manufacturer in the world by output. As a point of sale display manufacturer we play our part- delivering jobs and skills, as well as investment and our financial contribution.
