You need POS to make your January sales

Image of Sale signsDo we still have January sales? With the shifts in retail over recent years, it seems as if the ‘January’ sales start some time in Dec and end around July. But whatever you call them, effective POS is essential to promote any bargains, sales or reductions.
Perhaps the first lesson when using POS to promote your January sale is that subtlety is out – any retailer needs to use every opportunity to give customers a reason to buy from them. The continued difficult trading conditions mean retailer’s have to work even harder to earn the hard pressed consumer’s attention and loyalty.
The first place a retailer needs to consider is outside the premises. Effective use of A boards and swing signs is essential. What is an ‘effective’ use? Messages that change regularly and that have a clear call to action – ‘limited stock’ ‘today only’ ‘when its gone, its gone’ type messages.
Window space is another key communication area, and we have lots of POS that can help here. Poster holders and effective display items such as plinths and boxes will add interest. It’s important to vary the window layout and key messages to keep the passing public interested.
When planning the January sale, as much time needs to be given to planning the POS and the communications as to the stock lines and prices. The counter top and areas around checkout are always important, and, while you have your customers in the buying frame of mind – thanks to your fantastic bargains – maximise their good mood with some effective POS around your impulse buys.
